Amazing creativity in the hands of kids!Click here to see which levels of sound you can hear:
I hear funny noises
Let me know how high you can hear. I can only hear about below 14.1 kHz
What prompted me to blog this?
New Leaf Market downtown Santa Cruz has tried to disuade young punks from hanging out on the sidewalk in front of the store. The thinking is these young uns drive away people who actually have $s to spend.
Other stores with similar struggles have resorted to a device called a mosquito. Its a speaker that blasts out annoying sounds... but only at a level that people 20 +/- years and under can hear! Some random story about the speaker. So I walk by and don't hear a thing. But gheschell and jsims would cover their ears and scream about the sound!
Here's where the creativity comes in: some ingenious folks have tranformed these "age discrimiating" sounds into ringtones. You and your friends in class know you've got a call or text message, but not your teacher!
If you're 40, you're thinking, what an aweful idea! If you are 15, you're likely saying "sweet" or "cool" or ??? (insert current phrase used to express great pleasure...)
Here is a story about the ring tone thingy.
I read about this stuff on Guy Kawasaki's blog along with other stuff about teens.

Thud, I'm proud to say that I can hear the 16.7 level tone. I guess I'm not totally old yet. But those other tones were just silence...and I got the sudden urge to yell something about "whipper snappers".
Thud,
Even at 32 I can still hear all of the tones. I guess I do not have 1 foot in the grave yet like I thought.
